A New Dawn for Democracy
After nearly two decades, Bangladesh has held its first free and fair election — delivering a landslide mandate for a secular, pro-Western government.

"Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

This is a country of all its people — regardless of their religious belief, political affiliation, or ethnic identity. Those who did not vote for me are also citizens with equal rights. We will build a rainbow nation where diversity coexists in harmony.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman
First Address to the Nation, February 18, 2026
A Historic
Democratic Mandate
On February 16, 2026, Bangladesh held its first genuinely free and fair election in nearly two decades. The result was a resounding landslide victory for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies, who captured over 250 of 300 parliamentary seats. This election was widely praised by international observers as transparent, credible, and a triumph for democracy.
The new government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, represents a decisive break from the previous regime. It is a secular, pro-Western administration that has immediately signaled its intent to strengthen ties with the United States and the broader democratic world.
This political transformation is not merely a change of government — it is a fundamental realignment of Bangladesh's geopolitical orientation, moving away from Chinese influence and toward the American-led democratic order.

Pillars of Political Stability
Free Elections
First genuinely free and fair election in nearly two decades, with massive voter participation and international validation.
Secular Government
A secular, democratic administration committed to religious tolerance, minority rights, and rule of law.
Pro-American Alliance
Explicit pivot toward the United States with landmark trade and defense agreements already signed.
Institutional Reform
Commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, judicial independence, and anti-corruption measures.

Presidential
Engagement
President Trump personally wrote to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman just three days after the election, congratulating him on his victory and pushing for stronger trade and defense ties. The President called for "decisive action" to complete defense agreements and urged Bangladesh to maintain the "tremendous momentum" in the bilateral trade relationship.
This level of personal presidential engagement signals that Bangladesh is now a priority partner for the United States. The trade agreement signed on February 9, 2026 — which includes the $15 billion LNG commitment — was negotiated directly under Trump's leadership and reflects his "America First" energy dominance strategy.
For investors, this presidential backing provides an unprecedented level of political risk mitigation. When the President of the United States is personally championing a bilateral relationship, it creates a stable and predictable environment for long-term energy investments.
The best way to predict the future is to create it.
